Garrett Kingsdale had the most exquisite lips. Gabrielle lost herself to the sensations as he nibbled the sensitive skin at her neck. He’d shaved and his cheek was silky smooth. The zesty scent of his shaving gel and the soft musk of his cologne made her wet and needy.

A big, strong hand threaded through her hair, holding her where he wanted her.

That worked for her, because she was right where she wanted to be.

In her limited experience, she'd never felt so complete. And her wolf-half was yelping and eager, ready to rip out of her dress.

She couldn’t let the shift happen, of course. Seamless transitions were not one of her strengths. Her human half and wolf were always at war, and she didn’t relish the pain. Or embarrassment.

No matter how vocal her wolf was, no matter how much she wanted out, Gabrielle held her back.

Mine. Mate.

The word brushed through her mind like a butterfly’s wings.

Mate.

A flush of heat scorched across her shoulders and down her chest. Was it possible—no. She'd heard about true mates, of course. But—

“You're thinking too much,” he murmured against her collarbone. And she was lost again.

How did he manage it? A few deep words, a carefully placed kiss, and she was putty in his hands. Willing putty.

Needy putty.

She was drunk on it and her body moved of its own accord, hips shimmying against his. Fingers plucking at his clothes. Skin. She wanted to feel his skin against hers.

He lifted his head, and she pressed a kiss against his strong jaw. Did all men smell this amazing, or was he special? A blend of juniper, pine, and something soft and musky. Vanilla, maybe. It was the tiniest bit sweet and if fragrance could smell warm, his did.

As it was, she wanted to rub against him. Burrow against his neck and forget the world outside these walls. A little voice reminded her that could never happen. He had too many responsibilities and she... she had no claim to him. Not really.

“You know what I've been thinking about all evening?” he asked, as his fingers moved over the zipper holding her dress up.

She shook her head, not trusting her voice.

“That I've never cared much for Christmas, but here you are. The most exquisite gift.”

His words brought back Marisol's comment about being naughty. The vampire had been right. There was a delightfully wicked glint in the alpha's eyes. He meant to have her, and she was going to let him.

There was a small tug as the zipper descended. “But…your mom loves…Christmas.”

“I’m more of a Yule man.”

“If you make a joke about your log,” she warned, and he chuckled.

His touch left her breathless. And when, at last, the dress gaped open; he slid a finger inside, coasting up her naked flesh.

Two could play that game. Her fingers traced the buttons on his shirt.

He made a sound somewhere between a sigh and a groan, but it was pure masculine frustration. His hands dropped from her back, and he shrugged out of his jacket, tossing it to a nearby chair.
