A good, old-fashioned pot roast never fails to please. When I was raising children, our only source of heat was a large wood stove that I stoked with firewood several times per day. A few hours before dinner, I’d prep a pot roast and put it to simmer on the wood stove. After a few hours, I’d add the vegetables, eventually making gravy and serving up dinner. Like the smell of bread fresh from the oven, a bubbling pot roast makes a house a home.
