Chapter

Six

Over the next couple of months Tiffany was losing her mind. Malcolm was nowhere to be found. She'd gone to the gym often to catch a glimpse of him to no avail. All of the spots she'd found that he frequented, he was never there either. She'd even called Candace a few times to try and schedule a visit with her, but all she'd been getting lately was her voicemail. And she hadn’t responded to any of her texts or emails either.

Tiffany walked the aisles of the grocery store. She loved grocery shopping because she loved to cook. She looked down at her list and read aloud to herself. "Rice. Check. Gravy. Check. Onion. Check. Avoca...."

"Tiffany?" She'd heard a male voice come from behind her.

She turned around not looking up from her list. "Yes?"

"Hey I don’t know if you remember me. I'm Malcolm remember? Met you a few times, a coupla months ago."

Tiffany looked up surprised. She wanted to run home and get dressed and come back all dolled up so he could see her at her best. But he'd caught her at her worst in a pair of name brand sweatpants and a tied wife beater that left her mid-rift showing. Her hair was in a high pony tail, and the only make up she wore was eye shadow and lip gloss.

"Yeah. Malcolm how are you?" She said excitedly. Not because she remembered him, but of all the places she'd find him, it would be right in her own neighborhood.

"Oh I'm wonderful. My wife and I just bought a house not too far from here." He smiled. He was in a v-neck t shirt and a pair of cargo shorts. He looked laid back and delicious.

"Really? This is my neck of the woods. How coincidental. Well let me be the first to say welcome to the neighborhood and I hope you love it here." She smiled and pretended to look back down at her list. Giving him attention before had made him run the other way. Maybe doing the opposite would get her the opposite.

"Yeah. I do all the cooking in the house, so I had to run out and get a few things. This store is massive." he said to her forehead as she looked down at her list.

"It is isn’t it?" She said not looking up from the list.

"Do you know where I can find cayenne pepper?" he asked.

She looked up at him and then down in her basket. She reached in. "Here. You can have mine. I've gotta go back down that aisle anyway." She said pretending to be sweet.

"Oh no I couldn’t do that. Go ahead and keep your stuff. Just tell me where it is ". He tried to hand it back. Tiffany backed away like he had the plague.

"Just keep it. I told you I have to go down that aisle again." She said backing away.

"Well at least let me be a gentleman and walk with you. That’s the least I could do." He smiled.
