Sales promotions

Sales promotions are a useful tool to create a short-term boost in sales. Sales promotions are not a single tool, but a set of techniques to interest potential purchasers in a specific offer, which may include things such as discounts (everyone loves the two for one offer, which is commonly known as BOGOF or buy one, get one free), gifts, collectables, competitions with prizes and vouchers (or loyalty points), and free samples (see Figure 13). These offers can be aimed at consumers who are purchasing the offer for their own use, or at customers who buy the offer for resale. These are called trade promotions and are designed to increase the adoption of their offer by manufacturers.
