Chapter 11

Danae’s heartbeat pulsed in her throat, a mixture of anticipation, excitement, and nervousness. Dradon was the only male she’d ever been intimate with. Not that she could call what they had intimate.

A niggle of fear tingled along her nerves, but her desire, the pure need for Aramond rushing through her veins outweighed the unease. He’d promised he wouldn’t bite her and she believed him. He was honorable.

That hadn’t changed over the years.

She tugged on Aramond’s hand and led him up the stairs. As her foot settled onto the top step, the familiar groan creaked from the wood.

“Good thing you don’t have a house full of guests.” His low voice held a hint of amusement.

Her stomach fluttered, and she stifled a laugh. “I think the squeak is the least of the noise they’d hear today.”

A purr rumbled from his chest. “That’s a challenge I’ll accept.”

Danae gripped her fingers around her bedroom doorknob and twisted. The latch clicked. A soft push and the door swung open. Tightening her grip on his hand, she strode into her room. She drew her dagger from her belt and tossed it onto the bedside table. It clattered against the lamp base before settling next to her clock.

Aramond wrapped his strong arms around her waist, drawing her back against his front. His erection, hard, firm, and long pulsed against her bottom.

Her body responded, sending a rush of wetness to her core. She shivered with delight, goosebumps forming on her arms.

With a quick turn, he flipped her around to face him. Warm and heady, his masculine scent of earth and fresh rain filtered into her senses, heightening a release of her own pheromones. The distinct aroma of lemons filled the air. Heat rose to her cheeks, and she bit her lip.

He chuckled, the low rumble reverberating in his chest. Even through her clothes, the sound tickled her nipples pressed against his firm abs. She laced her hands in his hair, gripping a few strands between her fingers. Danae growled, a rough and demanding tone.

“You drive me insane,” he hissed.

Before she could respond, Aramond pulled her to him, his lips claiming hers. The intensity in his kiss sent her into a spiral of need so raw, she couldn’t stop herself. She pressed against him, meeting his tongue stroke for stroke. Unwilling to let him go for even a moment, she tugged at the edge of his shirt. He didn’t seem to need any further encouragement.

Aramond broke their kiss long enough to strip the white T-shirt from his chest. The briefest hint of daylight filtered under the heavy curtains covering the windows, but it was enough for her catlike vision to pick out his broad and rippled chest. His unblemished skin, healed from his fight, took her breath away. She ran her hands over him, enjoying the strength beneath the soft skin.

A purr of pure admiration rumbled in her chest.

He fumbled with the buttons on her shirt, but his large fingers were too big to handle the small fasteners. His brow furrowed as he concentrated, frustration etched in his dark eyes.
