EXECUTE FAITH

It’s not enough to simply believe because “even the demons believe.”3 Instead, you must execute faith and act because “faith without works is dead.” That’s what faith does. It was “by faith” Jochebed acted and put her actions where her heart was. She loved Moses enough to put her own life on the line to hide him for three months. But all too soon the time came when it was no longer possible to keep him to herself. As if her courage to defy the pharaoh’s orders was not brave enough, she later let him go and literally placed him in the hands of God. She saved her son’s life again by making a wooden chest of bulrushes. It was watertight with pitch to protect Moses, but what about crocodiles? Undertows? Jochebed walked out of her hiding at the exact time He who ordered it all knew pharaoh’s daughter would be walking. Jochebed committed her son to the waters of the same river many other babies were drowned in. Her faith in the only One she knew could truly deliver her son saved his life and later saved a nation.

Perhaps taking a deep breath and wiping tears from her cheeks, she kissed him one last time and released the chest to float in the Nile while Miriam, her daughter, kept watch over it from a distance. But God was never distant from him. He was the only One who could save Moses now. And then, another miracle occurred. Moses was discovered by the pharaoh’s daughter, Bithia, who came to the river to swim. God touched her heart, caused favor, and gave Bithia compassion. Not only did she save Moses and draw him from the river, she also decided to adopt him. Imagine letting go of your child with no guarantee of his safety. Jochebed executed great faith when she placed her trust in God to care for Moses, and the Lord didn’t fail her. Be inspired by her faith that conquered her fear. Faith is the spiritual grace to help you act in the middle of terror. It’s a choice. When you choose faith instead of fear, you’ll receive your reward. According to Jewish legend, Jochebed is buried in the Tomb of the Matriarchs, in Tiberias. She was honored and remembered because of her faith and love and, more importantly, because God would eventually use her son to deliver a nation from its oppressors.

It is your choice. Submit yourself to God and no longer allow fear to paralyze you, to prevent you from carrying out God’s purpose for your life. Trust in the Lord. Love Him and others enough to act. 1 John 4:18 says, “There is no fear in love, but perfect love casts out fear.” When you experience God’s love, it drives out your fears and takes care of every imaginable problem. What’s the next step of faith God is calling you to take? Confess and repent of a sin? Get baptized in water? Surrender whatever it is to the Lord.
