Jenna looked up from the archaeological notes she was pretending to read and glanced over at Kynan, sitting in the middle of the living-room floor amid the dismantled components of his burned-out transmitter. She watched as he made a notation on the pad of paper at his feet before lapsing back into his thoughts.

Blast that transmitter, anyway! Who cared if Kynan ever got it to work after its spectacular fizzle yesterday. She certainly didn’t. There were so many more interesting things they could be doing. A flush skated along her cheekbones as the memory of their lovemaking popped into her mind. As it did every time she allowed her mind to wander. Probably because she wanted to do it again. And again. A soft, soundless sigh escaped her as she continued her study.

Kynan’s lips were pressed together, either in concentration or worry. Or, quite possibly, both. All she knew for certain was that she wanted to kiss them. To explore their exact texture. To savor the taste of them.

But what did Kynan want? Much as she craved his lovemaking, she wanted him to want it, too, and at the moment it appeared that the only thing he wanted was to work on his transmitter.

Discouraged, she propped her chin in her hand and considered the situation. She could always try seducing him. But in order to seduce him, she’d first have to get his attention and she had the disheartening feeling that, given his present state of preoccupation, he wouldn’t notice her unless she somehow managed to transmit radio waves. But she could wait, she encouraged herself. Kynan was a very intelligent man. Sooner or later, he’d face the fact that he wasn’t going to be able to contact anyone, no matter what the state of his transmitter. And when he did, she’d be here.

But would Kynan be here? Her feeling of anticipation faded as she remembered her fears about what Macintosh would do if he found out about Kynan.

A sense of panic filled her at the thought of not being able to see Kynan whenever she wanted. To talk to him. To make love to him.

Maybe it would be better to take the initiative away from Macintosh, Jenna considered. Maybe Kynan should tell his story to one of the television newsmagazines. That way, the government wouldn’t be able to hide Kynan away somewhere and try to pretend he didn’t exist. Not after a few million people had heard him. And seen him. Her eyes lingered on his golden hair.

Kynan would be a monster hit with the media. He’d probably have a fan club within a week. A dark spurt of jealousy oozed through Jenna. She didn’t want a bunch of women with more hormones than brains lusting after him. Jenna’s unsettled feeling deepened as she realized that a lot of very intelligent, very self-possessed women also would be clamoring to talk to him. To try to wring information about Atlantis out of him. The thought made her shift unhappily.

“Yes.”

She glanced
