Soon after Luxe finished freshening up in the bathroom, Zara and Knox arrived. We said our goodnights and were on the road.

“Are you going to drop me off, or do you want to…stay?” She said it so softly that without my enhanced hearing, I might not have heard her.

“I’d like to stay, but I want you to be sure Luxe.”

She rested her palm on my thigh, and I took her hand. “I am.”

I wasn’t convinced. However, it would hurt her if I declined. “Then yes, I will stay.”

She squeezed my hand.

I reminded my wolf that Luxe wasn’t like most she-wolves we’d known. She was smaller, and that made me want to be gentle with her. She wasn’t aggressive, whereas others of our kind seemed to always be searching for a slight, constantly on edge. She accepted things at face value. Although she wasn’t overly confident, I enjoyed that she seemed content. She was optimistic and realistic. Life with Luxe would be comfortable. Our home would be a calming oasis in a world of noise. She would make life amazing.

“Why are you smiling?” she asked.

“Just thinking about you…us.”

“Yeah?”

“Yeah.” There was an “us.” I needed to convince her that it would be forever.
