When I wake up in the morning, it’s clear that we are late for class. I look around, and Amaris is still sleeping, but Atticus is missing. I rise as gently as possible, so I don’t wake the sleeping angel next to me. I check the kitchen, the foyer, and the other room from last night, but it isn’t until I come to what appears to be an office that I finally find Atticus.

“What are you up to? Are we not going to classes today?” He startles when I speak, which is a sure sign that he is deep into something.

Finally, he answers me,

“No classes today. She didn’t wake up once all night and has been still as stone. I think this is affecting her way worse than it should be, so I came here to do some research. According to what I’ve found so far, the stronger the main soulbound person is; in our case, that’s her, the harsher a rejected soulbond will be for her. It could take days before she is back to full strength, but even that will be temporary. If the soulbond isn’t complete within thirty days from the first contact, it will shatter her soul. There’s no way to break the bond either, I checked.” Damn, this is a lot to take in.

I can’t stand the thought of losing her. I’ve already fallen in love with her kind but sassy soul, and I could never live my life without her.

Then I recall the other danger to her,

“Atticus, have you been able to find anything about her birth parents? They could have some information that would tell us more about the assassin who attacked her.” I inquire. He pauses and stares at me for a moment before acknowledging my question,

“I am not sure, but from all the research I’ve done on the phrase the coyote used when he tried to kill her, I only found one search result. It’s such a ludicrous explanation that it simply can’t be her.” I eye him cautiously as though he might decide not to tell me what it is, and then he continues,

“The only reference I found of ‘the lost silver moon’ is the long-lost princess of the moon kingdom, Lunaria. It says that she disappeared almost twenty-four years ago when the dark king invaded their land and took everyone prisoner. The king and the heavily pregnant queen could stop the attack, but it was said that they hid their daughter for safe keeping because it was prophesied that she held the moon's power. I don’t know if there is any truth to all of this, but she would be about Amaris’ age right now, and she had violet eyes with black hair that shone slightly silver in the moonlight. The princess also has a crescent moon birthmark on her left shoulder blade. Have you seen one on her? I haven’t noticed one.” I think on this for a moment, but I haven’t seen one either.

I shake my head
