“What do you think the princess did, then?” Carter asked Lilia.

They were reading a story at his mother’s house as she ate a snack—she was always eating something or other, so much that Carter teased her she’d eat him out of the house someday. At least he was there to make sure his mother didn’t sneak her too much chocolate cake. She’d be bouncing off the walls every night if he let his mother feed her what she wanted.

“She made friends with the dragon!”

Carter laughed. “That’s right. She made friends with the dragon.”

“Are there dragon shifters, Dad?”

“Mmm, I don’t know. What do you think?”

She pushed her hair out of her face, and Carter wondered where the elastic band he’d put in her hair that morning had gone. Probably lost at school somewhere. “I don’t know. Molly was a tiger.”

“And do you know other shifters?”

She nodded. “There are a lot of wolves in my class.”

“What do you think of dragons, then?”

“Maybe? It would be cool!”

“Yeah, it would be.”

Her hair fell in front of her face again, and Carter got up. He moved behind her chair and used one of the hair ties he kept on his wrist to tie her hair back.

“What’s Lucas?”

Carter blinked at Lilia’s question. “I’m sorry?”

“Lucas. What shifter is he?”

“You mean what kind of shifter? He’s a wolf.”

“I know a lot of wolves.”

“You already said that. Do you like wolves?”

“They’re pretty.”

“That’s true.” Carter knew it was time to talk to Lilia about his relationship with Lucas. They hadn’t decided when they’d move in together yet, but it was coming, and they’d already decided Carter and Lilia could go live with Lucas. Carter would share his room, and there was a guest room that would be perfect for Lilia right next to theirs. Lucas had even talked to his friends to ask them if they were okay with having a little girl living with them.

Carter knew it would be inconvenient for them. They wouldn’t be able to be intimate anywhere but in their room, they’d have to watch their language and what they said, and Ryan would have to stop bringing guys back every night. Carter wasn’t sure it was right to ask them to change all that, but Lucas had said they’d all agreed, including Ryan.

Carter wanted himself and Lilia to live there. The house was big and beautiful, and the woods around it gorgeous. Even sharing a house with another three men was okay. Lilia didn’t have much of a family, and those men were Lucas’ family.

“Do you like Lucas?” he asked, hoping it was the right way to start.

Lilia shrugged. “I don’t know.”

Carter slid back into his seat and looked at his daughter. He’d been raising her on his own for the past year or so, and it was hard as fuck, but he loved her so much. He didn’t know what he’d do if she didn’t like Lucas or if she didn’t want to move in with him. “You talked to him when he came to meet Grandma and Grandpa.
