Michael T. Klare is a professor of peace and world security studies at the Five Colleges, Inc.: Amherst College, Hampshire College, Mount Holyoke College, Smith College, and the University of Massachusetts at Amherst. Before assuming his current post in 1985, Professor Klare served as a fellow and program director of the Institute for Policy Studies in Washington, D.C. He has written widely on U.S. foreign policy, the arms trade, and international resource politics. He is the author of Resource Wars: The New Landscape of Global Conflict (2001); Blood and Oil: The Dangers and Consequences of America’s Growing Petroleum Dependency (2004); Rising Powers, Shrinking Planet: The New Geopolitics of Energy (2008); and The Race for What’s Left (2012). Klare has written for many newspapers and journals, including Current History, Foreign Affairs, Harper’s, The Nation, Newsweek, and Scientific American.
