CHAPTER FOUR

LYNETTE

Why am I nervous? I fuckin’ hate having to deal with people. Now, you may say, how do you expect to do anything, go anywhere, achieve anything if you don’t? All good questions and good points. That still doesn’t change the fact that I don’t want to be here. From the look of Molech, he shares the same sentiment.

At least getting to the sprawling home located on an exclusive man-made island in Miami only took seconds through the portal Molech created. Now, in the hot sun, I marvel at the breathtaking piece of architecture. No guess is needed as to why this property was picked for the art show. Model after a home in Italy, the house and lands look as if it was plucked out of history. Trucks line the long driveway. Workers mull around as they unload, deliver, and set things up for the event taking place in two days.

“Hello, hello, hello,” calls out Gigi as she races down the hallway to greet us at the entry of her home. “Danjal is in the underwater palace.”

“Huh? Wait,” I order while I grab Molech’s arm in my attempt to make him stay. “Palace, where? Isn’t this the house?”

“For show,” Gigi whispers under her breath, getting closer. “The palace on the ocean floor is where we really live,” stepping back, she gets louder, “take the elevator,” she tells Molech. “Come with me,” she goes on while she pries me away from Molech.

“I wanna talk to you?”

“Why?” I shoot back. I’m in no mood for the drama.

“Because I want your opinion,” she smiles.

I ain’t buying it. I know the head games women like to play. All that friendly shit is just a cover for the knife they’re planning on stabbing you with later.

“Do you like art?”

“Yeah. Going on an art tour of Europe is on my bucket list,” I confess.

“Oh, you like the renaissance,” she beams. “I loved seeing it all, too. But every country and people have their own art that should be seen. Europe…Italy is what gets the most hype.”

Opening a door, she lets me walk ahead before entering to close the door behind us. In awe, I look at the paintings on the wall of the sitting room.

“If you like these, wait till the show,” chuckles Gigi.

Forcing myself to ignore the artwork, “What do you want to talk about?” I inquire, getting the ball rolling.

Neither one of us take one of the leather chairs in the stuffy room.

“I know why you’re taking that stance, but you don’t need to with me,” Gigi comments as she shows she’s not a threat by being the first to sit.

My eyebrow notches upward.

“Forgive me for wanting to test the fruit before taking a bite.”

“I like that,” she smiles. “Don’t look at me sideways when you hear me using it.”

“Imitation isn’t always the best form of flattery.” I can’t believe I said that to her, nor do I seem to be in control of what I say next. “Love like that isn’t to be celebrated.
