Chapter 5

“So they’re at your house right now?” Deanna asked.

“Yes. Kennedy and Vander showed up, probably because Shylo and Boston are still recovering from their injuries.”

“So you’re letting them fix things up around the house?”

“Deanna, you know Kennedy. He is commanding, forceful and I was really trying to be tough and not let him get to me, but then I felt a bit guilty, like I was giving him too hard of a time. They do have a right to be with Billy too.”

“Do you think they want to be back in your life, like maybe rekindle things?”

“Kennedy might have mentioned proving that they changed and how much they care, but I can’t take that risk. I have to do what’s best for me and for Billy.”

“What about Baker? How did that date go? That should have been an indicator on whether you really want to move on and explore relationships with other men.”

“It was different. I mean once I got past feeling guilty for some stupid reason.”

“Because the Curran men are back and you pick now to go on a first date?”

Jolene chuckled, “Well, yeah, and leaving Billy for a bit when I already left him for the exam and stuff. Then of course Baker is so wealthy and sort of pompous, I guess. I’m just not used to having to feel like I’m being analyzed and watched closely. He would say things like I’ll teach you that. You’ll learn, don’t worry, sort of insulting, yet also like he wanted to show me so much. But also I felt like I know so little. Nothing more than Casper, the Curran men, this shop and this life I’m leading and I’m only twenty-four.”

“That’s understandable, and especially if Baker talks about things you’ve never tried or explored. But remember he is older, over forty so his experiences would be a lot more than a twenty-four year old’s.”

“I suppose you’re right. It wasn’t like I didn’t like the kiss.”

”He kissed you?”

“Well, yes, and it was nice.”

“Nice, but not get your panties all wet, nipples hard and ready to throw inhibition to the wind and have wild passionate sex kind of kiss?”

“No, definitely not all that.”

“But with Kennedy?”

“Kennedy is different. All the Curran men, it was always wild, full throttle deep and like all those things you described, but now I know the truth.”

“What do you mean?”

“I was the only one feeling that way. They obviously didn’t feel the same strong feelings or they never would have left me.”

“Aw, Jolene,” she said but before she could continue the bell chimed and in walked Baker.

“Hi, Baker, what’s going on?” Jolene asked as he came closer, placed his hand on her hip and leaned down to kiss her.

She placed her hand against his chest to stop him but he pulled her close and kissed her. When he released her lips she was shocked that she felt very little. Just a small spark and she damned her mind for thinking about Kennedy and his kiss. His masculinity, his size and height compared to Baker and that was wrong.
