Myon

“Why didn’t you tell me that you were leaving?”

I smiled at the sound of Navarro’s groggy voice. It was sexy, and a clear sign that he had just woken up.

“Because you were out cold, and I didn’t want to bother you. I had an early appointment and figured you would call when you were up.”

“How long have you been gone?”

I glanced at the time on my dash, which read seven fifteen.

“A little over an hour. My first appointment is at 7:30. I’m opening the shop today.”

“Damn, I swear I didn’t even know you were gone. I guess I’m on my own today.”

“You’re not going to your office?”

“Nah, I’m chillin’ today. I was hoping to spend time with you. What time are you gonna be finished?”

I did a quick calculation, knowing that my last appointment was at noon. I scheduled them back to back since I had to be here so early.

“I should be done and home by three.”

“Aight, bet. Come straight here when you’re done.”

“We have plans?”

“Nah, I was just thinking we could order some food and kick it here unless you want to go out. I’m not really in the mood, though.”

“No, it’s fine. That works for me.”

“Aight, cool. I’m about to hit Mission up, so call me later.”

“Okay, but wait, are you okay? We didn’t really talk about your mom.”

I thought about the fact that he came home, basically sexed me until we both had nothing left to give, and then we crashed after he told me that he saw his mother and that was why his mood was so off.

“I’m good, My. We can talk later.”

I held the phone, chewing the corner of my lip, unsure if I wanted to accept that. Whatever went down with him and his mother was bothering him, and given their history, I was sure it wasn’t good. I honestly wasn’t sure how they even crossed paths in the first place.

“My, I’m good, baby. It’s my job to worry about you, not yours to worry about me. We’ll talk later, but I have to go,” he said, breaking the silence and pulling me from my thoughts.

“It goes both ways, so if you need me, I’m here.”

He chuckled. “I know you are, and I appreciate that. It’s one of the things that I know I can count on.”

My smile grew wide. “I’ll see you in a few hours,” was all I gave before ending the call.

I climbed out of my car, groaning about the fact that it was so damn early to be there. The only thing that helped was that it would be a short day for me.

I managed to get through my first two appointments with no issues, and I was on my way to finishing my third. It was a wash and press, and I was halfway there since my client was pretty much sitting under the dryer with her conditioner. While I spun slowly in my chair, I lifted my phone for the hundredth time like I didn’t already know that only a few minutes had passed since the last time I checked.
