TWELVE

The sleepover with his wife was a huge success for Dhev Tella, Bash noted in his records. The man would soon be ready to return home after they stabilized his blood chemistry, and they were close to doing that,

Sarah was coming to stay two nights a week at the moment. The sex definitely had an effect on Dhev’s mood, keeping him positive and less aggressive.

He got curious about something Andrew had told him, so he waited for their morning session to ask the question.

“How often are you shifting, Dhev?”

Dhev had to think about it. He finally shook his head. “I really can’t remember. Surely, it had to be the last patrol I had in the Park back home. So, before my father was shot.”

“Dhev! It’s been months! You know how dangerous that is. We even have an area here you can Shift and run in.”

The man nodded. “I know, but I spent so many years not shifting while I was at school that it became a very bad habit that I haven’t broken.” He gave a wicked grin. “Besides, cats don’t really like to run unless they’re bringing down prey.”

“I’m going to order that you shift daily until you return home and then I’m telling your brother you need to do it at least three times a week. We need to renew the habit of shifting regularly, which I am theorizing may actually help stabilize your blood chemistry.”

“Thanks for bringing it to my notice, doc,” Dhev smiled. “I never thought of it, to be honest.”

“You’re lucky I did. It was something I was told about Shifters and sex once it was known I was Cressida’s mate.”

Dhev laughed. “Yeah, there is no way a vanilla human would understand about our need to get rid of energy by either fighting or fucking.”

Bash smiled at the crude way that Dhev had put it because mentally he thought of it that way.

“Is the need stronger in males than in females?” He asked his patient, each of them learning from the other.

“I think it’s stronger in the males,” Dhev said and sat back in his chair, thinking. “You would have to ask my mate, but Sarah would have a scientific explanation for that where I would just say that, even in the wild, females will avoid a fight if at all possible.”

He’d have to ask Cress later about Lions in particular. Leopards and Lions may live together on the Savannah in Africa, but Leopards were solitary cats and Lions were very social in their Prides, if college zoology was anything to go by.

He’d know more when he got their blood work back. He’d drawn their blood every day. They both showed heightened sex hormones, which explained why his libido was through the roof. Cress had told him she’d never been like she was since she’d met him. It certainly explained the invention of their bath salts and blue vials.

He thanked all the gods for them daily.

The blood test results came to his tablet, and he was happy.
