I didn’t know what the hell she was talking about. “What voicemail?”

She reached for her phone on the arm of the chair. “Well, last night I noticed that I had a few old voicemails that I didn’t get around to listening to. I was going to just delete them, but there was one from you when you were in Miami. At first I was just going to erase it, but it was over two minutes long, so something told me to listen.”

Suddenly my heart dropped and I swallowed hard. A voice in my head told me that what she was going to tell me was not good, but I let her talk. I decided to just wait to see what was coming next. Although I already had a feeling, there was one last hope that she wouldn’t say what I just knew she was going to say.

“And?” I asked wishing she’d just get to the point, although I was wishing for a miracle.

“And, did you cheat on me in Miami?” Her eyes were vulnerable as they stared back at me.

“Why would you ask me that?” I felt guilty all over again.

Somehow I’d pushed those feelings aside, because we’d made up and that was all behind me. It was only some head, but I knew that it was cheating. Still, there was no way that I could admit it and chance losing Baby. There was no way. Shit, I was mad as hell when I did that shit. It was no excuse, but I was going to make up for it by simply not doing it again.

She just stared at me for a second that felt like an eternity before she finally said something. “I heard a bitch on my voicemail Zy. It was music and shit playing like you were at a club or something. The thing is…I couldn’t really make out any words. To be honest, for a second it was like I could hear you moaning and shit. Tell me the truth Zy.”

Her eyes were on mine and I couldn’t bear the pressure. “Baby, c’mon. I went out, but I didn’t do shit. Maybe when I was sitting down I called you by mistake and some chicks were near me. There ain’t no way you heard me moanin’.”

She played it for me and I could hear the muffled sounds of me enjoying the head I’d been served with. Old girl had done her thing, but it wasn’t worth it. Damn, it wasn’t worth losing my woman. Especially after knowing that she didn’t cheat on me. I had got caught up in my emotions and shit. I’d become so accustomed to being betrayed that I forgot to care about her. I forgot to be concerned about my lady.

When the voicemail stopped she shook her head.

“I know that you were mad at me. You thought I’d cheated on you. Just admit it if you did something Zy. Tell me the truth. Can you actually look me in the eye and tell me that you didn’t do anything?”

“Yes I can.
