Parting from him was the hardest thing she’d ever been through; she couldn’t prevent her tears from overflowing, and her eyes were constantly reddened. It had only been a tenday, but it felt like an eternity.

Because the Order didn’t assign her a new mission right away, she resumed traveling. This was the best way to keep her mind busy. She could never wait to talk to him telepathically at night. They would chat for hours about anything and everything, as time flooded by like a river.

Finally came the day when she would see him again. Elydia had cleaned the house, polished the furniture, and dusted the curtains until not a speck could be found. She had even greased and waxed the timbers of the floor. She even cooked without using Magic. The meal was far from perfect, but she hoped he would appreciate it more for that very reason.

Jonthar showed up right on time.

A warm wave overwhelmed her from the inside, and her lips curled into a smile that no one could erase.

A radiant aura surrounded his strong figure. For a moment Elydia thought he had cast a spell on himself, but then she noticed the chandelier behind his back.

His citrus scent preceded his voice. “I’m here, dear.”

“I can see you and smell you,” she answered while running towards him.

Those were the last words they exchanged. Then, their bodies started singing. They loved each other, and there were no more boundaries: there was no more Draal, Yantar, or Hanorak. As Fire breathes Air, she couldn’t live without him. As Darkness cannot cast a shadow without Light, Elydia was Jonthar’s last hope of happiness in a life which – after the Cataclysm – did not belong to him anymore. Eventually, Water filled all Earth’s gorges. The elements merged into the world’s oldest spell. The star entered the circle which embraced and nourished it.

She would do that for nine months.
