The Dangers of the Occult

The following story shares the miraculous conversion experience of a young man who had been deeply entrenched in the occult. God set him free from the bondage of Satan.

I studied clinical psychology at the University of La Plata, in Argentina. I also took courses on graphology and graphic tests. I worked for nine years in four psychiatric hospitals, in the rehabilitation of psychotics and with some other disciplines.

I was taught that knowledge is power. I craved to be rich in knowledge so I could be noticed and stand out among my peers. When I finished my studies, I decided that the area of scientific knowledge was sort of limited and very competitive. If I became a teacher of the occult, of astrology, parapsychology, folk medicine, and eastern religions, I could dazzle people with the secrets of darkness. I wanted to be mysterious, deep, and seductive — a mixture of psychotherapist, guru, and sage.

The supernatural and the mystical fascinated me.

Eventually, people who were lost fell into my trap. I used to seduce them with spiritual, ancestral, and esoteric discussions. My vanity would gleam. I was convinced I knew everything. Many had faith in me, they needed me, they followed me, and finally ended in a life similar to mine: empty, but with an appearance of order; senseless, but with the illusion of being well planned; dissolute, but with an independent and modern appearance. It was an awful life, under the disguise of a temperamental personality; a fearful life, covered by a defiant, menacing attitude, always ready to attack.

For a long time I did astral charts and taught astrology, applying it to psychotherapy. I was an instructor in eastern meditation and an investigator of some occult and parapsychology issues. I searched for God in all the eastern religions, and I didn't find Him. For nine years I worked in the rehabilitation of psychotics in four hospitals: Melchor Romero, Borda, Estevez, and Moyano, all in the city of Buenos Aires. But I was expelled out of all of them because I was against their electrical, surgical, and chemical treatments. So I started to work as a psychotherapist in my own home. I introduced myself as a psychologist so that people would not call me a healer. Some said that I had paranormal powers; I liked that and believed it. In reality, I was just an impostor, the blind leading the blind.

After years of investigating the truth about teachers, gurus, healers, and psychics, I realized that even though there were some stimulating and psychosomatic effects, none of them produced real change — that is, miracles. The results of their powers were deceitful and apparent. I told my followers, "I can only teach you what I have discovered in my search." This honesty captivated them even more.

They asked me many times about who God was, and I would say, "I only know Him through stories." When they asked about the devil, I would say, "I have seen him manifest in people, in some of my clients.
