Lord God, You are a gracious, compassionate God who is slow to anger, abundant in lovingkindness, and more than willing to relent in sending calamity. I am not yet that kind of person—but I want to be. Forgive me for my temper, forgive me for holding people in my life to a different standard than I hold myself, and forgive me for not showing others the compassion and mercy You have shown to me. Change my heart, Lord; make me new. Teach me through the conviction of the Holy Spirit to show grace to others as You have shown me grace. Teach me to take on the suffering of others and be willing to walk with them in the compassion You have shown to me. Teach me how to be patient in my anger, not allowing it to consume me quickly. Rather help me show others the lovingkindness You have shown me. Give me eyes to look upon the wickedness of people with sorrow, realizing their distance from You. Only through the Holy Spirit and the sanctification of my heart can I do these things. I trust You, Lord, to renew my mind through Your Word. In Jesus’s name, amen.
