You’re thinking, “Oh, this is a story about a no-good slacker who doesn’t have a clue.” Wrong. Angela does not have to be told that she’s got to get a grip and get her life moving. She’s gone so far as to write down “plans” so that she can finally start living like an adult. She has a “plan” to get into medical school. She has a “plan” to start walking five times a week to lose weight. She has a “plan” to buy new clothes and to get a new image. And she has a “plan” to start going places to meet a boyfriend.

But she has never put into effect any of her excellent plans. Something has always tied her up. She hasn’t been able to get to medical school because she doesn’t have any money. She doesn’t have any money because she can’t get a job. She can’t get a job because she needs to be studying for school. She can’t lose weight because her mother is always making her cookies. And as long as she stays fat, it’s pointless to look for a boyfriend, because she thinks no man would be interested in her.

Angela’s problem is that she won’t get started and she won’t take action. Remember the be-do-have formula. Angela is being, but not doing. At this rate, she will never have. So do something. You can only create your own experience if you take action to do so. Planning is great, but doing is better. Take action immediately, because throughout our lives we are frequently presented with windows of opportunity. However, those opportunities will disappear whether we are ready for them to or not. We have to take advantage of the opportunities when we can.
