Chapter 52

Zach

Orlando, Florida

Thursday, November 24, 2016

For the third weekend in a row, I was back in Orlando. This time was for Thanksgiving though. I flew in late last night and it felt good to be at home with family. The smell of my mom’s cooking was making me so excited.

After I brushed my teeth and showered, I got back in the bed and flipped on the TV to catch the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day parade. To me, watching that is like the official start of the holiday season.

I spoke to my friends and wished them a Happy Thanksgiving. My mind then pondered over to Micah. I was still in shock that his toxicology reports came back with cocaine in his system. I know Raidon is distraught. What in the hell was going on in Micah’s life that made him revert back to cocaine? This is crazy!

And then there was a knock on my room door. My mom soon opened the door and walked inside. She smiled, sat on the bed and said, “Happy Thanksgiving, baby.”

“Happy Thanksgiving, Ma.”

“You still gonna make the mac and cheese?”

“You know it!” I smiled.

“Awesome. Well, just rest up. I’m about to finish cooking now. I told everyone to come around one.”

“Sounds good,” I said.

She smiled and said, “I’m happy to have you home.”

“I’m happy to be home,” I said. “This was the first Thanksgiving that I’ve been home in almost ten years. After Dray and I moved to New York, I spent all my Thanksgiving’s with him, especially with his birthday usually falling on or around the holiday.”

“Have you talked to him today?”

“No,” I said staring at her.

“You should call him. It’s only right.”

I just stared at her.

She stood up and said, “I’m not trying to get into your business, but you should give him a call. At least that’s what I’d do.”

“Ok,” I said.

“But it’s your life. Your call,” she sighed as she headed towards the door.

“Yes, it is my life and my decisions.”

My mom turned and looked at me.

“What?” I asked.

“Again, I’m not trying to get into your business, but what’s taking you so long to make a decision? Why are you stringing these two men along? Pick one and let the other one go. I mean…it’s only fair, right? How would you like to be strung along like that?”

I just stared at her.

She said, “You don’t have to answer because your face says all. Just pick one or neither of them and move on with your life, so they can move on with their lives.”

I exhaled. She was right. I know I needed to make a decision. And I will make one very soon because Micah’s sudden death put a lot into perspective. I was just scared to make the wrong decision. I don’t want to fuck this up.

“What’s on your mind?” she asked as she closed the door and walked back towards the bed.

“I want to make a decision, but I’m afraid to make the wrong one. What would you do if you
