Isaacs’s comments were instructive for me. I realized that despite my struggles in figuring out how to get the information across in this unique context, somehow my students had recognized that the practice was valuable and that mindfulness was central to what they were doing in other aspects of the program.

Rainer Maria Rilke (1981) wrote, “How could we forget those ancient myths that stand at the beginning of all races—the myths about dragons that at the last moment are transformed into princesses? Perhaps all the dragons in our lives are only princesses waiting for us to act just once with beauty and courage. Perhaps everything that frightens us is, in its deepest essence, something hopeless that wants our love.” My own personal dragons of fear, doubt, and insecurity were being transformed by the commitment to make the work an act of love.
