CHAPTER 14

Raven stood in Sloan’s office waiting for her assignment. Charger had just gotten back from a job in Kentucky and had been filled in about what happened with Lana. Their relationship was…hell, she didn’t know what their relationship status was. Both had been so busy they barely saw each other and when they did it was strangely awkward, and she had no idea why. Maybe she just wasn’t destined to have a relationship.

He glanced her way, their eyes met and held while Sloan talked on the phone. There was a definite heat in his gaze, so he wasn’t totally immune to her. Fuck, she had no clue what happened between them. They had one date, a lot of sex and then things just seemed to cool off. Was she not woman enough for the Guardian? Was she too manly because she could give him a good fight? Should she act more ladylike around him. Raven looked away from him with a snort. Hell, she wouldn’t know the first thing about being ladylike. She was much more comfortable grabbing her crotch and spitting.

“Hey kids.” Jared walked in and took a seat in front of Sloan’s desk. He was about to put his feet up until Sloan glared at him. “Who’s he talking to?”

“How the fuck would I know.” Charger replied with a shake of his head.

“Damn, man.” Jared gave him a sideways glance. “What crawled up your ass? You used to be pleasant.”

“I’ve never been pleasant.” Charger shot back taking Jared’s bait.

“True. You’ve always been a dick.” Jared replied with a smirk then winked at Raven. “I’m the pleasant one.”

“So, what are you guys in here for. Get caught smooching in the hallway.” Jared grinned wiggling his eyebrows.

Raven rolled her eyes wishing to hell Sloan would hang up the phone so she could get her assignment and get the fuck out of there.

“Are you ever serious?” Charger glared at Jared.

“Are you ever in a good fucking mood?” Jared shot back. “And no, for your information I’m not. Serious is boring as you should fucking know.”

“Good you’re both here.” Nicole said, as she walked in with Damon following. Raven had always liked Nicole. She was beautiful, smart, and badass, but she was lady material unlike herself. Damon was the total opposite of his mate.

“I’m always here for you Nicole.” Jared beamed at her gaining a glare from Damon.

“How sweet.” Nicole patted Jared on the shoulder. “But I was talking about Sloan and Charger.”

“Always the bridesmaid and never the bride.” Jared sighed dramatically. “Story of my life.”

Raven laughed at that. “You are not right.”

“No, he’s not.” Sloan said, as he hung up the phone. “He’s a dumbass. Now what the hell is everyone in my office for?”

“Assignment.” Raven said, wanting to get it and get out, but Sloan glanced over her to everyone else.

“I needed to talk to you and Charger about my charity fundraiser for this year.” Nicole announced with excitement ignoring the shaking of Sloan’s head. “Just wait a minute before you start shaking that big head of yours.
