Ms. Anderson’s boutique in the city is full of customers. The ambiance exudes life and excitement. There are a couple of photographers taking pictures. Ms. Anderson is happily assisting customers before she goes to speak with the photographers. “Jimmy, you and that camera,” she says, “let these people breathe!”

“But Ms. Anderson, its Glamboree season, we’ve gotta get the flicks,” argues Jimmy.

“And you will, tomorrow at the fashion show, but for now, get on outta here and let my customers shop in peace.” Ms. Anderson replies as she escorts the cameramen out the door.

“As long as you’ll be bringing us that spiffy pupil of yours,” Jimmy says. “She never disappoints!”

“What’s her name? Kongo?” the other cameraman says.

“Yes! Kongo!” she’s gonna put our little town on the map!” Jimmy says.

“Alright, see you guys tomorrow,” Ms. Anderson says after getting them out the door. She stands on the steps and smiles out at the city.

Cori is assisting a customer in the store who is asking for a larger dress. “Ugh,” Cori groans, “Y’all bout to stress me out!”

The customer is determined. “What do you want me to do? Squeeze myself into this hole?” she asks.

“Your issues are not my issues,” Cori responds.

Ekanga comes from a back closet in time to see the conflict between Cori and the customer and runs over to help. “Excuse me, ma’am but we’re sold out of this dress in this size and color, I’m sorry,” she says.

“I told you. Now my friend had to come check you,” Cori says.

“Oh no, I wanted to wear it to my bachelorette party,” the customer complains.

“If you’d like, I’m sure Cori would be thrilled to show you our other seasonal dresses,” Ekanga says as Cori looks at her with confusion.

“I know you didn’t just-,” Cori begins her complaint.

Ekanga quickly quiets her friend, “Cori.”

Cori sighs, “They’re over there.” She motions to a rack of clothes across the room.

The customer nods and heads in that direction.

“Cori,” Ekanga says, “I thought you said you had worked on your customer service skills over the last year.”

Cori clears her confusion. “I did, but I didn’t say I made any progress.” The two of them laugh.

“I’m so glad you’re back for the summer,” Ekanga says as she hugs Cori.

“Yea, you know I had to come back and see you, especially for the Glamboree. I see this as a tradition since we became friends around this time three years ago.”

Ekanga looks away. “Three years…,” she says to herself.

“And I still don’t know your real name,” Cori laughs.

“Ladies,” Ms. Anderson calls out to them, “I’m glad you’ve reunited for the summer. Let’s get things ready for the show tomorrow. Remember, we’re having dinner tonight!”

“Yes, ‘cause you know my friend is gonna win that fashion show tomorrow!” Cori says as Ekanga laughs.

“Alright girls, let’s get to work,” Ms. Anderson says. “Ekanga, Mr. Willie from the hardware store up the street has some packages for us. You mind running down there really fast? They’re small boxes, he said.”

“Okay, I’m on it,” Ekanga says.
