“Can I come on another adventure with you?” asked the largest fledgling. “Please? It was so much fun!”

“I don’t think that’s a good idea,” Kitty replied. “You’re still a bit young to be having adventures.” She turned away, still thinking about Hazel and Pixie.

The baby bird gave a disappointed cheep before huddling down inside the nest with his brother and sister. Kitty slipped through the tangle of branches and headed back toward the flashing lights of the carnival. She met Figaro and Pumpkin, and they spotted Kitty’s family at the candy apple stand.

“Is everything all right, Kitty?” asked Pumpkin.

“I was thinking about Pixie and how excited she is to have made friends with Hazel.” Kitty sighed. She missed the little white cat terribly, but Pixie hadn’t even stuck up for her when Hazel had said mean things.
