USE RED CABBAGE JUICE, CARBONATED WATER, AND YOUR BREATH TO VISUALIZE ACIDIFICATION BY CARBON DIOXIDE.

Head of red cabbage

Knife

Medium-size pot

Water

Carbonated water

Heatproof spoon

Colander lined with a paper coffee filter (optional [see note])

Small clear or white cups or test tubes

Drinking straws (optional)

SAFETY

TIPS & HINTS

Cabbage juice is nontoxic, but an adult should do the chopping and boiling steps. When the juice is cool, kids can take over.
