Fifteen

Thanks to Liam, I could breathe and picked up Leith’s scent. He leaned against a white column like he had not a care in the world, a phantom of a smile on his lips. His light brown hair was damp as if he, too, got caught in the rain, but his clothes were dry.

“Oh, I get it, a little evening make-out session. I’ll just go back inside. Pretend you never saw me,” he said to Liam, eyes dancing. Leith turned to walk back into the house but paused, his eyes narrowing. “Why do I smell blood? Liam, did you bite her?”

“No, for God's sake. Where the fuck have you been? She was shot by a hunter. Help me get her inside,” he snapped, forking a hand through his wet hair.

Leith’s jaw almost hit the ground. “And you thought it would be a good idea to kiss her to death?”

My lips twitched. I couldn’t help it. This whole scenario was too damn much. What were the chances that Leith would walk out right then when Liam was actually saving me with his lips?

And now that the kiss had ended, I could, in fact, confirm that the touch of his mouth made the trauma to my calf manageable. I was tempted to try and stand, but why would I walk and potentially hurt myself more when I could have Liam carry me?

God, is the heir prince growing on me?

Just because he saved my life didn’t mean I had to start catching feelings.

Liam lifted me out of the car, my legs dangling over his arm. The sight of my blood-soaked jeans was alarming. Could I afford to lose more without needing an infusion? Hospitals weren’t places shifters voluntarily went. Our DNA and blood weren’t normal to that of humans, and in order to keep what we were from being broadcasted over every news station, hospitals were avoided at all costs.

That was why I wasn’t surprised Liam had taken me to his house. Packs strategically had people in all the necessary fields so we could take care of ourselves without jeopardizing our identity.

“It’s not what you think,” Liam defended the kiss, his long strides taking us to the house. “I had my reasons. Now open the door so I can bring her inside.”

Propping the door open with his back, Leith made a sweeping motion with his arm. “By all means. Mom’s going to have a shit-fit if she finds out you kept a bleeding girl on her porch instead of bringing her inside.”

“Shut up, Leith, and go get Mom,” Liam grumbled as he passed his brother into the house.

“Ma, Liam bit Kelsey!” Leith hollered.

Liam groaned as he sat me down on the couch, his expression pinched like he was seconds away from hitting his younger brother. Or, at the very least, ramming his elbow into his gut. Whereas I was afraid I’d ruin their couch, staining the beautiful leather with my blood.

Sydney came rushing down the hall, an apron tied at her slim waist and her caramel hair piled up on top of her head.
