Mickey threw herself into work. Every moment was about getting her shop ready to go. She avoided calls from Neka, deleted messages from Pillsbury, and refused to bite the bullet and call Anthony to apologize. It wasn’t her style. She didn’t think she was wrong for questioning his lack of affection and the fact that he would talk to her the way he did didn’t exactly make her want to run to the phone to hit him up. Busy with preparations to open up Urban Nails, a name she finally had decided upon, Mickey didn’t really have time for the other nonsense in her life. Between interviewing nail technicians, working with her new publicist, and supervising the decorators, Mickey could barely get a minute in for herself.

It was all coming together. If you excluded the fact that she was now devoid of a social life, things were looking up. She felt drama free and her business plans were moving along swiftly. She was doing okay. That is until she came home one day to find Pillsbury sitting on her front steps. Mickey slowly parked her car, giving the man the evil eye and wondering what the hell he was thinking by just showing up at her place uninvited and unannounced. She wasn’t really surprised though. Pillsbury wasn’t exactly the type of dude to take kindly to being ignored especially when there was something he truly wanted. She took her time getting out of her ride, putting on her game face, preparing to finally have it out with him for being such an ass the last time they’d seen one another. Mickey couldn’t help but notice that he was empty handed. She knew that, had it been Anthony coming to apologize, he would have shown up with some lovely display of flowers. But then again, she knew Pillsbury and she was pretty sure that his ass wasn’t there to apologize.

“Where you been, ma?” he asked her as she ascended the steps to her front door.

She walked right past him, not bothering to give eye contact.

“Working,” she retorted. “You should try it.”

Pillsbury rose from the steps and moved to stand beside her at the front door.

“I work,” he objected. “You know I be out here hustling, doing my thug thisiel.”

“Uh-huh. What do you want, Pillsbury?”

Her attitude was in high gear. She held her keys in her hand, not yet unlocking the door and not willing to allow him entrance into her house.

“I want to talk to you.”

“About what?” she rolled her eyes at him.

Pillsbury sucked his teeth.

“Come on, man. Stop fronting…lemme come talk to ya.”

“Talk.”

“Man, can we go in the house? So we can talk this thing out in private, ya’ feel me?”

“It’s just you and me out here. So whatever you have to say you can say it right out here. You don’t have to go inside to feed me some bullshit.”

“Aight man,” he replied, running his hand over his head. “I ain’t come over here to argue with
