SLEEP CAME fast and hard, and Sloane didn’t stir once. When he woke up to the quiet rush of the magical waterfall, he was completely refreshed.

Surrounded by cozy blankets and tentacles, he sighed contentedly. He was comfortable, happy, and… oh no.

He rolled over, frantically pushing Loch’s tentacles away so he could promptly vomit off the side of the bed all over the sand.

“Good morning, my dear husband!” Loch smiled, and one of his tentacles rubbed Sloane’s back. “Ah, so, breakfast?”

“Ugh….”

Loch cleaned the mess and got them dressed before they returned to the apartment. Sloane much preferred getting sick in his own bathroom over spewing all over the beach of a sacred grotto. After round two ended in dry heaving, he trudged out to the kitchen to find Loch and the others.

He stopped short, staring in bewilderment.

Sloane almost didn’t recognize his own apartment.

There was a large table with chairs in the living room, and all the other furniture like the couch and television were gone. Sweeping garlands of flowering vines were draped along the walls, and a great assembly of food had been gathered on the table: roast beef, chicken, fruit, puddings, tiny sugary cakes, and more.

Despite the morning purge, Sloane’s mouth watered.

“Holy shit,” Chase blurted out. He was staring at Sloane’s stomach.

Sloane sighed.

“You look beautiful,” Merrick said politely. He and Chase were in the kitchen, helping Urilith and Galgareth. Loch was also in the kitchen, but he didn’t seem to be helping as much as he was stealing food.

“Yeah, no, seriously!” Chase grinned. “You’re glowing. Really. Sorry. Just, you know, wasn’t expectin’ all of that.”

“It’s okay,” Sloane grumbled.

“He is very beautiful, and I have the urge to mate with him even more often,” Loch announced cheerfully, snatching a piece of food from one of the pans and popping it in his mouth.

“Thank you.” Sloane smiled wearily.

“That’s great. Wonderful.” Chase held out his hand to Loch. “Now gimme.”

“Give you what?” Loch cocked his head.

“Loch.” Chase narrowed his eyes and didn’t back down.

“Fine!” Loch groaned as if in deep agony and produced Chase’s badge with one of his tentacles, handing it over.

“Good morning!” Urilith swished away from the stove to greet Sloane with a kiss and a steaming bowl of soup. “How are you feeling, dear child?”

“Better, thank you. The springs were amazing, and wow, the house looks incredible.” Sloane hesitated. “Totally not being ungrateful, but where’s my couch?”

“Oh!” Galgareth spoke up from where she had been rummaging around the fridge. “Everything is right outside in the hallway! We’ll put it all back as soon as the feast is concluded, promise!”

Sloane resisted the urge to facepalm.

“I know how much you enjoy the couch. I will not let anything happen to it.” Loch came over to kiss Sloane and give him a tentacle-filled hug. “How is your stomach, love? Do you need to be sick again?”

“No. It’s still kinda gross but much better, really.” Sloane looked at the bowl Urilith gave him. “I have no idea what this is, but it smells freakin’ delicious.
