Chapter 17

Jordyn

Now that my hands were free, I felt more in control of the situation as we moved through a narrow stone tunnel. Every hundred feet or so we would reach a junction, revealing other tunnels that led to god knows where. The possibilities looked endless. I forced myself to try and memorize the route we were taking in case I succeeded with my rescue and was able to get Lynn and Robert out without having to resort to my backup plan.

"Very soon we're going to encounter several daemons that will be there just to see if you're still my prisoner. It's kind of a checkpoint. All you need to do is hold your hands out in front of you," he said, waiting for me to follow his lead. "I'm going to wrap my hand here," he said, wrapping it around my slim wrists. "When I let go, that's your signal to take them out. No theatrics. Just touch them and end them. From that point on, there will be no turning back. "Jordyn, I'm on your side. I always have been. I knew you were awake this morning. I needed you to hear that. I needed you to believe it. One of Geryon's heads can read minds. I needed him to see your doubts about me and your mistrust. That was the only way he was going to allow me to walk in here with you."

"What about your deal with Kale?" I asked, still not believing him.

"Sweetheart, I'm only interested in one deal, and it's definitely not the one he's offering me."

His words washed over me and I wanted to believe them. More than anything else, I wanted them to be true. The problem was, lying was Emrys's job. I had no options, and if he really was playing me, he knew that. I had no idea where Lynn and Robert were, what would be waiting for me or how to get them out. The only plan I had come up with had little chance of working. I had one option: faith.

"Let's go rescue your friends and get out of here. Then we'll clear the air once and for all," he said, cupping my face and placing his lips on mine. Before I could even completely register that we
