EVERYTHING IS POSSIBLE

LUKE 9:37–45

“‘If you can’?” said Jesus. “Everything is possible for him who believes.”

(Mark 9:23)

As Christ, Peter, James, and John came down from the mountain after the transfiguration, they found the other disciples attempting unsuccessfully to cast out a demon. Luke's Gospel sets the time frame as “the next day,” while Matthew and Mark imply the time immediately following the transfiguration. This might indicate that the transfiguration happened during the night. When Christ and the three returned, the other disciples were engaged in an argument with the teachers of the law. At first glance, the dispute seems to have little bearing on the events surrounding the demon-possessed boy, yet God purposely wanted us to know about it. I'd like to suggest that the argument may have greatly affected the disciples' failure. This statement ushers in our first point:
