The Church is Supposed to Be Blessed

Is it true that the church is supposed to be blessed? What exactly does it mean to be blessed? When you only have part of the truth about any concept, especially blessings, there is misinterpretation. In this case, if you only have part of the truth about blessings, it makes being blessed look like a form of greed. When you have preachers talking on TV about giving them money or sending in a donation to receive a blessing or that giving will get you more money, it distorts the real meaning of being blessed. These type of preachers misinterpret scriptures and teach from a distorted perspective on how to obtain blessings.

I believe that one of the reasons why teachers of the law of attraction are so popular today is because they are teaching it from the vantage point of creating wealth. Unfortunately, in this day and age many people are suffering financially, including Christians. A friend of mine who works at a bank once told me that the largest percentage of people who file for bankruptcy are Christians. She was rather appalled at that statistic because she too was a Christian .

Why do you suppose that this statistic is shocking? It’s common knowledge that Christians at one point in history have been major contributors to good causes. Today, that role is virtually crawled to a halt. Why is that? Through no fault of their own, it’s because Christians have not been taught how to interact with money, or worse, they have been taught that money is bad. There isn’t enough solid teaching about finances and wealth create and how the law of attraction can be applied to increase it.

The fact remains, that North Americans are currently living in a position of lack. In its most fundamental form, everyone needs money. The world operates on the basis of money. If you have no money, you do not eat, you do not have a place to live, and your basic needs in life will not be met. When North Americans run to preachers because they promise wealth, they are doing it because they are desperate to acquire financial help. These people are looking for a way to get their basic needs met. Regrettably, there are people that take advantage of starving people by preaching a lopsided version of blessings. I will say this, money to some degree does create happiness and if you don’t have money, then you can’t be too happy .

This is why some people are attracted to what some call the “prosperity teaching” in the church. The ultimate goal of these preachers is to be able to help you to attract wealth in your life, not because of money itself, but what it represents. Money represents happiness and security. Even as a Christian, you cannot deny that money has this effect on all people.

Even if you were like Mother Teresa and claim that you do not need money to live a happy and fulfilled life, you would be kidding yourself.
