Chapter 10

Valda walked around the room. She was pissed, of course, but more than that, she was curious too. Whoever had come in here hadn’t been the Queen. She’d stake her life on it. There was something very unprofessional about this kill.

“What do you think?” She turned to look at the man who she’d partnered with last night. “The Queen has struck again, hasn’t she?”

“Sort of.” She walked to the bed where the ashes still lay. They were of a woman she’d turned only last weekend and now she was dead, but she’d not died easily like the others had. This baby had suffered a great deal, Valda had felt it. “The others yes. I can see that. I did have my doubts on the first one we came across, but now that I see this, I can see that this is the work of someone else.”

When she stood near the bed, she sniffed the air. She had no idea why she even tried anymore, but she found that she needed to. Everyone knew that the Queen left no scent. But this time Valda did smell something. Leaning down, she found a small drop of blood. Taking it to her nose, she sniffed.

Valda put the small smear onto her tongue and savored it. She may be terrified of them, but she loved their taste. And now she had his taste. Finding him would be no problem. Closing her eyes, she tried to find the man and came up with several locations. It seemed that the wolf had been moving a lot in the past few hours. When she felt him at the house of the lion, she knew she had him. Standing, she looked at Devon.

“We’re going to pay a visit to the lion. I think he might have some information that I want.” Valda moved out of the house and started to move toward the house when Devon spoke.

“I’ve heard rumors about the lion. It’s said that he can control all animals and that his pack is filled with them.” Valda rolled her eyes and he smiled. “I said it was a rumor; I didn’t say I believed it.”

“I have heard the same thing. More than likely they are rumors he’s spread on his own.” She crossed her arms over her chest and glared at him. “Are you going to be a pussy or are you coming with me?”

He pulled her to him and kissed her. She liked it rough and over the years had gotten really good at finding herself partners that liked to take the pain she dished out. Her mate had never been into
