The executions were carried out at the following times: 9:34 a.m., Elizabeth Volkenrath, 10:03 a.m. Irma Grese, 10:38 a.m. Juana Borman, 12:11 p.m. Josef Kramer and Dr. Fritz Klein, 12:46 p.m. Karl Francioh and Peter Weingartner, 3:37 p.m. Ansgar Pichen and Franz Hoeszler (Hessler), and 4:16 p.m. Wilhelm Dorr and Franz Starfle. Two gallows were used, enabling the eight men to be hanged inpairs. The women walked to the gallows singly. Special passes were given to former concentration camp victims who wanted to witness the hangings in person.

Frau Kramer, widow of Josef Kramer, was stopped from entering Belsen concentration camp in August 1946. The widow of the notorious concentration camp enforcer was searching for a box of jewels that was supposedly hidden there by Irma Grese. The hunt for the box was initiated when Helena Grese contacted her elder sister who was employed as a nurse in the Russian occupation zone of Germany. Nurse Grese discovered that Irma had hidden the box of jewels in the camp garden at Belsen.

Nurse Grese was put in contact with Frau Kramer who knew how to get to the concentration camp. The two women went to the camp together. Nurse Grese told the camp guards, somewhat ingeniously, This is Frau Kramer and we have come to look for Irma Grese's jewels.

The camp guards quickly arrested Frau Kramer and kept her in lockup for three hours. After she was released the garden was searched but no jewelry box was found. It was reported that Frau Kramer was living in poverty. On a previous visit to Belsen she had narrowly escaped after an inmate threw a knife at her.
