6.2 Analytical Examples

As an initial example, we now generalize from Sect. 3.6, Fig. 3.​11, the Rankine vortex which has a non-smooth slope at the core’s border. The so-called n 2 Scully vortex (see [6] of Chap. 1)

gives a somewhat smoother shape. Reference [16] gives pictures of recent measurements of tip-vortices in water. During the MexNext experiment, the shape and movement of the vortex was measured in some detail ([29, 30], Chap. 5).

A well-known (second) example is Hill’s Spherical Vortex with vorticity in cylindrical coordinates (Fig. 6.1):
