The Small No. 5 bus, which can be caught outside Kunyang MRT station, the eastern terminus of the Bannan Line, travels past Academia Sinica’s front door and through the local tea-plantation area. Riders can hop on and off at any point in the latter area.

The area’s claim to fame is the prestigious Academia Sinica, Taiwan’s leading academic institution, the Nangang Tea Plantations, and two new facilities that have sprung up since the mid-1990s as a result of a concerted city government economic-stimulus blueprint, Nangang Software Park and the sleek new Taipei World Trade Center Nangang Exhibition Hall, a massive complex with its own station on the new Neihu MRT line. The Academia Sinica sits in a valley in Nangang’s south. On its grounds are two sites of interest to tourists: Hu Shih Memorial Hall, and the Museum of the Institute of History and Philology. By the end of 2016 the district will also have a new landmark – the Taipei Pop Music Center, which is set to be the country’s most professional music performance venue.
