Daddy had bought me a brand new car and I put all the miles on it myself. Since Eddie was in Tennessee playing football, mom and dad vacationed a lot. Mom sold her boutique for quite a bit of change; instead of expanding she decided to just sit back and relax. Dad was in limbo. Every time mom would bring the subject up he would say something like, “I started that firm with a five hundred dollar loan and a dream, now it was one of the biggest black owned companies in Georgia”. Maybe mom as well ought to have just given up on getting daddy to retire, because it wasn’t happening. He had his right hand running the day to day while they were away. I had nothing to say to Melenie since she moved out, and why should I say anything to her; she’s content with letting some bastard beat her ass on a regular basis. She did write me a letter; Lailah read it to me, Paul was working more and more in Georgia, with his trading company, and she was busy being a housewife. Sad.com! A damn degree gone to waste. I didn’t respond to the letter after Lailah read it to me. I felt like there was nothing for me to say to her.

“You are so stubborn, Gi-gi.”

“Why do you say that?”

“Cause your sister just poured out her heart and soul in this letter, and you have nothing to say.”

“Why would I say anything to her, she lit into our mom every time she got the chance to about how she was so feeble and weak for not leaving her father, and now she’s the same woman our mother was.”

“But that’s her business, she’s obviously happy with Paul, you have to accept that.”

“No I don’t.”

I was never gonna accept the fact that my sister was in an abusive relationship, she had changed so much in the first year that she was married. How a person could let another soul control their every being. I did miss my sister, but I couldn’t shake the fact that she allowed some low-life to hit her and she nothing about it, nothing at all.
