Department of Homeland Security, Catalog of Control Systems Security: Recommendations for Standards Developers

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) catalog6 is based on NIST SP 800-53 and is described in the document as presenting “a compilation of practices that various industry bodies have recommended to increase the security of control systems from both physical and cyberattacks.” The controls in the catalog are divided into 19 categories or families that are taken primarily from NIST SP 800-53, Revision 3, with some controls from ANSI/ISA-99.00.027. There are 250 controls in the DHS control systems security catalog as opposed to 347 in NIST SP 800-53.

The control families from the catalog and their relationship to NIST SP 800-53 categories are shown in Table 6-4.
