I finished reading the letter and immediately called to the guard to ask him for some paper. Surprisingly, he agreed to find me some, and I soon began writing a secret letter to my family from my cell. I didn’t know when, or even if, I would be able to send it.

I got very encouraged by your letters, especially by the prayer support every day in our church and the fasting chain! I am sure that Keith’s friends up north do the same.

I can tell you how much I rejoiced when I received the Czech Bible during the last Embassy visit! In the first two weeks, I have read through more than half of it! After five months, I was so hungry for the Word of God! I am getting encouraged, especially by the Psalms.

Our Lord is teaching me to be patient in this situation (see Romans 12:12). As I wrote in my previous letter, He is giving us strength to pass this test successfully (see 1 Corinthians 10:13). I am having a great time with the Lord every day. Since April 20, I have been alone in my cell again, so I can read, pray, and sing aloud. The Lord is reminding me of the words of many songs that I learned when I was young and under the Communist oppression in our country.

When I read the Bible now and I find a verse that the Lord had put on my mind during the first five months here, it is as if I have found a lost pearl! I was also encouraged very much by reading the passage of 1 Peter 4:12–14. I am sure you will be encouraged by it as well!

I am also very thankful to the Lord when I hear about the excellent studies of our daughter, Vanda, and son, Petr. I am really proud of you, children! I am also glad that your mom has started to learn English seriously with a very good teacher. You will need it, Vanda, as you will have to travel with me in the future after I am released so that you would not need to worry about me! :-)

Physically, I am doing well. I feel well and strong though I have lost twenty kilos. My blood pressure seems to be normal.

Things are moving very slowly here, so we need to be patient and trust the Lord as He is the one who is holding the keys.

I have put all my hope in Him, not in men. He is the one in control. We all are in His loving hands and the King’s care!

I cannot express in words how I cherish you all in my heart! I miss you very much! I rejoice in the hope of seeing you soon and being with you at home! I am keeping you all in my fervent prayers every day whenever I pause the reading of the Bible. I pray for you and bless you all (Numbers 6:24–26).
