“In the world of predators, the prey is to be blamed.” ~Anonymous

We got in late after hanging out with the group. By the time I was up the next morning, Edra had already left the room. It was unlike her to be up before me. She seemed to have fun with everyone last night, and that made me glad. I was going to miss seeing Declan as much, but I had to make the choice in order ensure he was safe. I would play into Meph’s game. I would play my part well. I grabbed some training pants and a tank, not sure what we had on the agenda today.

Downstairs was quiet, which was odd, but I didn’t think too much into it. In the kitchen, I decided that cereal would be a good enough breakfast for whatever the day would hold. Just as I was sitting down at the table, Meph and Cain came in from out back.

“Hey, how was your evening?” Cain asked.

“I had a lot of fun. What did you boys get into with me and Edra gone?”

“Not too much, we explored the town some. We found a paintball arena. That is what will be will doing for training today.”

“Paintball?”

Cain grinned. “It’ll be a great way to teach you evasion tactics.”

“Should I be scared?”

“Yes. Yes you should” Meph laughed out loud.

“Great.” I groaned. As I finished eating, they explained the basics of paintball. It actually sounded really fun.

“Is it just going to be the three of us?”

“No, Apollyn and Edra will be meeting us there. So hurry up.”

I finished eating quickly, and put my bowl in the sink. I was excited to get to this training. The guys made it sound fun. I also knew that evasion was something I needed to focus on. I hoped that it would also allow me to watch the evasion tactics of the others to learn their weaknesses. Even if we were on the same team, knowing their weakness was important.

Also, I hadn’t been in town since the first night we visited, and I looked forward to being in civilization. It was nice outside, not too hot, which made the walk more enjoyable. I listened as Meph and Cain talked about who would be on whose team. I also took in the sights around us. It was a cute town, slightly bigger than the town Gray and Hannah were from. It took us a good half hour or so to make it to where the arena was located. Apollyn and Edra were waiting for us, as was Nathaniel.

“Hey, what are you doing here?”

“Meph invited me, because you needed an even number to play.”

“Gotcha.” I wondered if it was a power play by Meph in an attempt to see how Nathaniel fought, or if he was the safest bet. He didn’t want me around Declan, but I wasn’t sure why he wouldn’t have invited Haddy. He could have challenged my skills.

We paid at the stand, and were given the proper equipment. Meph broke us up into to three teams of two.
