Limit your interaction time. If it seems that they make a beeline to your desk every day so they can chit-chat, inform them that you only have two minutes to spare. Stick with that time limit and clearly communicate it.
Become solution-oriented. Instead of listening to their problems and drama for thirty minutes during your lunch break, tell them they have five minutes to cry on your shoulder. After that, you will work with them to solve the problem. Often these people arenât interested in solutions, just venting, so this tactic will discourage them.
