Even now, I still think of Mister Rogers as someone who seemed to know me and provided a connection to me as I grew up with the insecurities and fears reserved for an only child in a single-parent home.

It wasn't just me that Fred reached. Before and after I watched his show, Mister Rogers was connecting with purpose.

He started the first version of what would become the nationally recognized Mister Rogers' Neighborhood in Canada in 1961. That was two years before either of my parents were even born. For over 40 years, Mister Rogers would take boys and girls, young and old to The Land of Make Believe where they didn't have to be afraid of anything.
