Two weeks later
Joshua had reached out to a private detective who went by the name PI to check out Rita’s new boyfriend. His son described him to be a low-life, roughneck and he didn't want that type of guy to be around his children and influencing them. After he left his office for the day, he met up with PI in the mall parking lot. Once Joshua paid him for his services, PI passed him a large manila envelope, and then said, “This guy appears to be both a pimp and a player.”
Joshua gave him a shocked expression. He was expecting the player part but the pimp part of his comment threw him for a loop. “A pimp?” Joshua asked in an incredulous tone.
“Yep, he lives with his girlfriend, a girl named Michelle, and boy do they have some wild hardcore sex,” he said, chuckling. “And he has a couple girls working the street for him over on Figueroa...young girls too,” he added, shaking his head.
Josh grabbed the big yellow envelope from him then began to flip through the pictures. Having seen enough he started his car up and begin to back out. He was furious, and to think that his little girl had been around this guy made him boil inside.
“You alright, buddy?” PI asked him. He was the same PI that had discovered Rita's affair with her therapist.
“I will be the second I explain all of this to Rita,” he said then drove off. Joshua grabbed his phone and tried reaching Rita at her office, but she was no longer there. I hope she isn't with that bastard, Joshua thought. Hopping on the 110 Freeway North, Joshua continued to try to get in touch with Rita, but got no answer on either her home or cell phone. So he called his daughter’s cell phone.
“Hey, Dad,” Jessica said.
“Where's your mom, Chipmunk?”
“She's gone with Kenneth. She said she wouldn't be gone long,” Jessica said.
Joshua slapped his steering wheel. “Gone? So are you home alone?” He knew Justin was at football practice and besides that he was still staying at his place.
“No, Dad, I'm with Auntie Jayla and Uncle Jacob.”
Joshua sighed a breath of relief. “Alright, Chipmunk I'm gonna keep trying to call your mother, but if you hear from her before I do tell her that it's VERY important that she gets in touch with me.”
“Is everything ok, Dad?” Jessica asked hearing the urgency in his voice.
“Everything will be, honey, don't worry, alright?”
“Ok, Dad.”
Joshua thought, this isn't like Rita to be out during the week like this. After calling her a few more times he decided to text her since she was obviously forwarding his calls to voice mail. Looking in-between his iPhone and the road, he text: Rita it’s very important, it’s about,- but the forceful impact from being hit from behind caused him to press the send button and lose control of the wheel. “What the fuck?” Joshua yelled as he tried to take control of the wheel.
