Got home after dark, another long day

Trying to find some work and make some pay

Got bills that are overdue; got a family to feed

Lord knows I’ll do anything,

don’t want this ride for free

I went upstairs to tell my little boy good night

We said “I love you’s” and before I turned out the light

He took my hand and bowed his little head

Closed his eyes and then he said

“Dear God, my daddy needs a job

Sure would make him happy and help him out a lot

He’s real good at doing things and

He’s got that big tool box

I couldn’t say a word as he finished his prayer

He said, “God, just one more thing…

Would you tell someone out there

That if my dad can fix my bike and

Build a house up in a tree

There’s nothing he can’t do

Tell them he’s the man they need”

Then I went downstairs to tell my wife

What I heard that boy do

She smiled, handed me the phone,

And said, “Baby, it’s for you”

“Dear God, my daddy needs a job

Sure would make him happy and help him out a lot

He’s real good at doing things
