Chapter 18

As he walked into the place, he stopped and stared. His entire aura spoke of confidence and money. As he stood in the doorway looking around, allowing his presence to dominate. His emotionless face demanded notice. Kirk Jr. had now entered the building.

They had arrived in a three car caravan; all three cars were low key. The people at the Cadillac dealership were clearly nervous and unsure about the meaning for the presence of the entourage. There were nine men and two women altogether.

There were two Escalades on the showroom floor, one blue, and one black. Kirk Jr. pointed. “I need both of those fully loaded,” he told the now wide-eyed white man.

“Oh, well…” He had a red face and a huge palm. He was a big, beefy, burly man with soft hands and a gentle touch. Kirk Jr. thought he’d probably have been more the image of a linebacker, but, surprisingly, he wore a suit well, and it was a nice expensive suit. “I’m John.” The strong simple name fit him and so did the strong handshake. “I can help you with that.” He handed Kirk Jr. his card.

The crew was over at the trucks. Doors open, climbing in and out like they already owned the damn things. All of the people at the dealership had come out of their offices to take in the scene. Even the manager came out to see what all the fuss was about.

“Excuse me.” The manager came over. He removed the glasses he’d had balanced on the tip of his slightly sun burned red nose. “May I help you?”

“Yeah, I just told John I want both of those…” He pointed to the two shining hunks, which dominated the showroom floor. “…fully loaded.” Beside him, Poo-Poo chewed her gum like a true ghetto Diva. Popped it, chewed with an open mouth, and smiled. She was Gucci’d down from head to toe, stiletto heels and a big Gucci purse.

“Ah, yeah. Well.”

“And I’ll be taking those with me today.”

“Well, I guess you most certainly will,” said the manager, though not seeming to totally believe. “Just get with John here and he’ll take you through the paperwork and we’ll go from there. Ah, may I ask you what type of work you do, Mr. Ah? I didn’t catch your name.”

“Blackman.” He shook the manager’s hand. “I’m an investment broker.”

“Investment broker? Oh, well, those are some nice vehicles and pretty expensive but nice.”

“I’m sure I’ll enjoy them, but, look; I don’t have a lot of time, so I’ma leave Patricia here to handle this.”

John and the manager nodded.

“And, ah…” The manager looked back and forth at them even more unsure. “Just how will you be making this purchase today?”

“Oh,” Poo-Poo popped a bubble and said in her sweetest voice, “we’ll be doing that in cash.”

“Cash?” The blood drained from the manager’s face. “Do you have any idea…”

She took off her shades and shook her head, stared him straight in the eyes and said, “It don’t matter.” She strutted and they followed as she slung the Gucci bag up over her shoulder and beckoned.
