It’s All Cleaned Out

Sharon’s Letter was long, wasn’t it? But, it was honest and complete. She obviously took to heart my advice: If in doubt, write more and not less. Her Letter also packed quite a gigantic emotional punch. She didn’t hold back. She shared her emotions freely and fully.

If she had written this Letter even two weeks earlier, it would have been much nastier and more intense. The steps she and Steve completed in Weeks 1 through 8 connected them in some positive ways and took the edge off her pain with Steve. She still had her resentments toward him, but they were now at manageable levels and could be completely cleaned out of her system.

Sharon used words of forgiveness in her Letter, and she meant them. Reading her Letter out loud to Steve was a further step toward forgiveness. But it took the Follow-Up Talks to make her forgiveness real. Their dialogue about parts of her Letter—in particular, Steve’s healing responses—led to four important results:
