4.6.2.1 Laser-Assisted Cataract Surgery

Another procedure to correct cataracts is laser surgery, more commonly known as LASIK1 (◘ Fig. 4.13). This procedure, which is approved by the FDA, requires the surgeon to use a laser to create a corneal incision. The surgeon then removes the anterior capsule of the lens and fragments the cataract before creating peripheral corneal incisions to correct the vision impairment.
