I wonât drink â as much
I will try to be on time
I will try and study slightly more often and not leave it to the last minute.
I will try not to be jealous of skinny American girls hanging around my boyfriend.
I didnât tell him the last one. It slipped my mind.
Itâs not one in the morning and hell do I need to sleep.
15TH JANUARY
Itâs a good thing my belated New Yearâs Resolution regarding my alcohol intake only specified âTry not to drink too much.â
I failed and then some.
It was only partially my fault.
Of course I was late to the first lecture back after the Christmas break. I swanned in at 9.40 a.m. and announced, âSorry Iâm lateâ to the room in general. There were only ten people, and I did that thing where you try not to make eye contact with anyone and just see a blur of bodies instead. I started heading to the back row, but then turned course and went to the front. If Iâm going to take this studying stuff seriously (finally, one term into my second year) I need to sit at the front. As I turned at my new seat I saw a flash of red from the backâMeredith, which gave me a zap sign and rolled her eyes.
âAh, Miss McCannon, how privileged I feel to have you two terms in a row.â
NOOOOOO! You have got to be kidding me. I mean, seriously. What are the chances, right! More to the point why didnât I check who the lecturer was when I was choosing my modules. I just saw that Iâd be sitting on my arse watching movies and got blindsided.
Professor Pilchard popped his head up from behind a laptop he was fiddling with.
âDonât worry about sitting down, Delilah.â Pilchard told me with a wave of his hand.
Instantly Iâm thinking heâs going to throw me off the course before Iâve even started, which would be unfair considering I passed my previous module with him⦠just.
âLetâs move seats everyone. Thereâs only a few of us, so no need to be strangers. Weâll be spending a lot of time together watching movies and all sorts over the next few weeks.â He rubbed his hands together with glee and my stomach dropped to my feet. Made all the worse by the fact I was stuck stranding up while everyone else was sitting and slouching in their seats. My face started to burn that bright ferocious red it goes.
Itâs official. History on Screen isnât going to be a doss module at all. In fact, itâs going to be hell
To make matters even worse, who should I end up sitting next to?
Thatâs right. Bloody Barbie and her miniscule slut underwear. And yes, I know I should call her Becca, but sadly I get stuck on the B and then canât change it in my head.
From that point on, things only got worse.
After the disastrous History on Screen lecture where Professor Pilchard attempted to make me understand the term Mise-en-Scene by waving his hands at me and going purple in the face, I snuck off to the library.
