I need a Brainiac Dream Team to help me, and I also need to stop the clock from ticking down to launch time. It’s a good thing I have a magical book in my hands.

You need to know the right people to ask for help, I think. This is a complex math and science puzzle. So the right people will be the best math and science thinkers.

If I can use The Book of Memories to travel in time and bring back some people who can help me figure out my problem, I’m pretty sure that after I return them, I’ll come right back to this moment, so no time will have passed. I can still take the trip to the moon and figure out how to find Jay when I get back.

I think about everything I’ve learned in school and read in my favorite books. I set my mind on Ms. Tremt, and the library, and then I think about one of the greatest libraries in all of history, in the great Egyptian city of Alexandria. The city was founded by the leader Alexander the Great in 332 BCE and was a center of learning in the ancient world.

Those ancient philosophers were able to figure out really tough problems all on their own, without any computers or other technology, I think to myself. I could use one of them.

A dreamlike vision of a woman appears in my head, her hair wrapped up in a messy bun and wearing scholar’s robes.

“Hypatia!” I cry. “Of course!”

Hypatia was a Greek mathematician and philosopher who lived and taught in Alexandria. She learned math and astronomy from her father and was the first woman that we know of to make an important contribution in the field of mathematics. She taught her students how to design an astrolabe, a portable astronomical calculator. She sounds perfect, right? I think so too!

I frantically write The Library at Alexandria, 380 CE, and somehow the scene appears before me even though there’s even less room inside the lunar module than in the command module. Somehow, magically, The Book of Memories scene appears life-size, even though the space in here is jam-packed.

I cross my fingers, wrap the beta version of the scarf around myself, and hope that when I step inside I will actually find Hypatia at the library and that the magical scarf will work. Imagine if today’s a day she decides to check out a play or something? And what will happen if I show up in Alexandria wearing a space suit?

The time-traveling fates are with me, though, and I see a large group of students surrounding Hypatia in the main room. No one seems particularly disturbed by my presence, so thank you, magical scarf beta version.

“Excuse me, pardon me, student coming through,” I mumble as I push my way through the crowd of students, trying not to knock anyone down.

Amazingly, my clumsiness seems to be an advantage here, because as I stumble my way through, students begin to step aside so I don’t actually elbow them or step on their toes.
