Improving Emotional Health and Combating Negative Forces

Keep in mind that not only does negativity attract negativity, but negative forces seek out situations and circumstances that provide an opportunity for them to enter and insert themselves in our lives. By avoiding what appeals to them and providing both an atmosphere and attitude that repulse them, the following techniques and positive stimulation will not only improve your overall health, but will also repel negativity:

Sunlight: The sun has many benefits for us humans. First, exposure to sunlight stimulates and strengthens the aura. Second, scientists have discovered that the sun also stimulates and increases our natural levels of an antidepressant in our brains called serotonin. It is now believed that the lack of sunlight and the associated decrease in serotonin production are the cause of seasonal affective disorder (SAD). Most importantly, it is also believed that lower vibrations or negative forces cannot exist in the presence of the sun. Get exposure to direct sunlight by either opening a window or taking a daily brief walk outside on a sunny day.

Fresh air: This has both a cleansing and calming effect on our brains. It also acts as a disinfectant that kills bacteria. Try to keep windows opened, preferably with a screen to shield out insects, as much as possible. However, do prevent exposure to cool drafts.

Bathing: The skin is the largest organ of the body, and bathing—which soothes it—will send calming signals to the aura. Additionally, bathing improves our circulation as well as leaving us feeling refreshed and rejuvenated. The union of humans with water is also a spiritual encounter. No wonder people sing in the shower!

Music that appeals to the infirmed: Music is a phenomenon that affects all human beings. (I see my animals favorably affected, too.) The thrill of music is due in part to its ability to manipulate emotions by triggering memories or producing fantasies. Ensure that the music you listen to is appealing to the infirmed rather than just the caregiver. A musical piece may be aesthetically pleasing to one but repulsive to another.

Television: Favorable programs not only provide positive stimuli for our senses of sight and sound, but they can help people to keep abreast of the news and current events, provide education, facilitate critical thinking about society and the world, and keep our minds occupied with other thoughts in order to divert attention away from the illness.

Pleasant odors: Odors enter the nose and travel to nerve receptors, which take the smells to the brain for interpretation. Certain odors, such as the smell of lavender, will cause the brain to enhance sleep and alleviate stress, anxiety, and even some types of pain. Other odors may stimulate pleasant memories. Aromatherapy—which is a science utilizing aromatic essences from plants to create balance, harmony, and the promotion of the health of the body, mind, and spirit—has been very successful in lifting the spirits of the ill.

Color therapy: It is believed that certain colors affect our moods. PsyWeb, a resource for depression and mental
